CFDA Has Announced Thom Browne As Its Next Chairman

Effective January 1, Thom Browne will be the new chairman of the Council Of Fashion Designers Of America (CFDA).

Thom Browne is an American fashion designer. He is the founder and head of design for Thom Browne, a luxury fashion brand based in New York City. He debuted his womenswear collection in 2014 and launched his eponymous label back in 2003. He’s well known for his out-of-this-world designs, meaning very innovative and bold designs.

The American designer who graduated from the University of Notre Dame will succeed Tom Ford and serve a two-year term heading over 450 designers as members of the council. His talent and craftsmanship in suiting tailoring are not common amongst other designers not ignoring his strippy details on sleeves as his signature design, and the strong presence he’s built his brand in the fashion industry makes his career trajectory align with the CFDA’s values.

The CFDA Chief Executive Officer Steven Kolb said:

“Thom understands the steps that are required to build an American fashion business that’s both successful and highly respected by the global fashion community, he started as an independent menswear collection in New York, and developed his brand into a fast-growing, profitable business with a strong global presence.”

Browne, 57yrs, has been a member of the CFDA since 2005 with many accolades from the prestigious Menswear Designer of the Year award (three times win: 2006, 2013, and 2016) to runner-up winner of the 2005 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. He has served on the organisation’s admissions committee, and the current selection committee for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, including serving on the CFDA board of Directors.

Looking forward to his new era.
