I asked myself – ‘Is there anything called summer moisturiser? because as far as I’m concerned as long as it gives me hydration, I’m good to go. But the truth is that the summer season calls for lightweight summer moisturisers, that’s the answer ‘Lightweight Moisturisers’. This summer season is a sweaty season, and the skincare products that work well with the season must be lightweight. Goodbye winter thick heavy rich moisturisers and welcome water-based lightweight moisturisers.
Many brands have come up with newly launched innovative face moisturisers and they are all packed with the best skin-loving ingredients and natural products like pomegranate, citrus, e.t.c.- that are packed full of antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals, and ‘hydrators’ like hyaluronic acid – which attract and boost hydration in the skin for a plumpy healthy skin. For example, OleHenriksen C-Rush™ Brightening Gel Crème- is a game-changer if you’re looking for a way to add glow to your skin, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturiser with Hyaluronic Acid for Dry Skin 50ml – is another go-to face cream that will combat every form of dryness, what about Teami Blends Superfood Moisturizer, Lightweight Daily Cream 50g? – the most natural ingredient packed face cream, to mention but a few.
That being said, what are the key points you need to hold on to when opting for the best moisturisers on the market?
The first key point is to always know your skin type – If you have oily or acne-prone skin, lightweight, and non-comedogenic moisturisers should be your go-to. Any moisturiser that has non-comedogenic qualities and is lightweight simply means your pores won’t be clogged, as the summer season can promote sweat and oil production in the skin, and wearing a heavy dense moisturizer can suffocate your skin, not allowing your pores to breathe causing more skin woes. The key ingredient to look out for if you have oily and acne-prone skin are salicylic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, Vit C, and other naturally derived ingredients.
Dr. Audrey Kunin, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of DERMAdoctor said in an interview and gave a simple explanation about heavy moisturisers. “Increased temperatures and elevated humidity tempt skin to pump out more skin oils. Applying a heavy moisturiser in these conditions creates a perfect storm to smother pores and increase the risk for breakouts.”
If you have dry skin, the obvious go-to will be a lightweight moisture-boosting moisturiser and the key ingredient to look out for is hyaluronic acid, Vit C, naturally derived ingredients e.t.c. If you have combination skin you need moisturisers like that for oily and acne-prone skin with moisture-boosting properties.
Another point to hold on to is to always stay hydrated – drink water regularly and do not wait until you’re dry and thirsty before drinking water.
Finally, always look out for SPFs in your moisturizers if you do not mind your moisturisers containing SPFs for day application, but some of us can be very picky – some prefer to wear their SPFs alone rather than having them in their moisturisers. If you’re picky like that, then buy your SPFs separately.
A simple suggestion from me is to also look out for summer moisturisers that add a little bit of tint/tan to your skin or simply add a few drops of tanning serum/liquid into your moisturiser – Thank me later!
The best moisturisers on the market will always be suitable for all skin types, lightweight, non-greasy, non-comedogenic, packed full of antioxidants, and with SPFs.
