Looking for beverage inspiration this halloween or better still this holiday season? Why not try the ‘Mulled Cider?
Despite the fact that coffee, tea, hot chocolate e.t.c. are the standard go-to at any party this autumn-winter season, you can also spike things up a little by serving this spicy citrusy beverage to your guest to make them feel more special.
It only takes 30 minutes to make, it’s vegan, homemade, and special occasion-worthy, it can be made in a crockpot or a stove, and for extra sweetness add apple juice and orange juice, just spike it with whiskey and rum to warmly win your guests over in a heartbeat in this cold party season.
2 cinnamon sticks
2 strips of lemon zest (about 1 inch long)
4 strips of orange zest (about 1 inch long)
4 cups of apple cider
1 star anise
4 shots rum
4 shots of Whiskey
4 cups of apple juice – for extra flavour and sweetness
4 cups of orange juice – for extra flavour and sweetness
How To :
1. Add the 4 cups of apple cider. orange juice, and apple juice to a large pot and allow to simmer, then the strips of lemon and orange zest in the simmering apple cider, this should also include the cloves, cinnamon sticks, and the star anise, allow to simmer until very fragrant and this should be for approx 5mins.
2. Go ahead and take the pot off the stove, and allow it to bubble while you cover the pot for 15 mins. When it has cooled down, sieve the mixture by placing a strainer over a large bowl and pouring the cider, this should remove the zest and spices.
3. Pour the sieved cider back into the pot and place it back on the stove to simmer.
4. At this point add 1 shot of rum and whiskey in a mug, as you serve your guest, and top it with the cider mixture, you can garnish each mug with cinnamon sticks and lemon slices. You also have the option of adding alcohol or serving without alcohol. Enjoy!
