Macy's Is Closing Majority Of Its Stores In 2025

Macy’s an American holding departmental store is said to closing down majority of its stores in this new year – 66 stores to date, starting from Brooklyn stores to Queens Newyork. The downsizing is the brand’s strategy to prevent too much losses after loses have been reported by over 150 stores, this will help the departmental store brand to focus on the 350 stores in various locations – it’s called the ‘go forward’ move.

Through to 2026 the brand is not only shutting down departmental stores, but also furniture stores and backstage off price stores which was announced in February 2024.

According to WWD the closure have started and last counted was 55 stores but now at 66 stores, among other Macy’s department store closings are the locations in Philadelphia City Center, Boynton Beach, Fla, and Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, N.Y.

Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc… said in a statement:

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,”

The ‘go forward’ investment strategy is reported to have boosted sales of the holding company with increased customer satisfaction. ‘Go forward’ investment is not only limited to just store closures but also focuses on storing brands that sells instead on the less productive brands
