Alexandra Wang SS’20

Alexandra Wang show took place at the Rockefeller Centre in Network, the 35yrs old creative director of the brand is now taking the footsteps of fashion icons who paved the way for upcoming designers, though very young to witness their glory days but the legacy left behind cant be erased, “What got me here… who were the pioneers who paved the way for me… American fashion and being born in America has influenced me so much. Not just the brands, but what they stood for: strong, unapologetic women.”

The fashion brand paid homage to fashion heroes like Donna Karan Newyork, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. The fashion Icons that defined the American fashion in the 20th centuries. We haven’t seen much of CK and DKNY on the runway nowadays but Ralph Lauren is in no doubt taking bows and applauds til now.

Wang designed the DKNY iconic bold shoulders and no-fuss stretch jersey bodysuits which still signal power—a testament to how groundbreaking her early collections were after decades of doing them. Calvin Klein’s Logo tees, the 90’s denim in light blue washes, underwear as outerwear which are the trends of the season. Who knew these Iconic brands did them first?.. He used the Ralph Lauren’s inspired flannel plaid, mile-long suede fringe and corduroy which are rare on a Wang fashion show. There were all white and heavily logo’d part of the show, which can be referenced to Tommy Hilfiger but was said to be a tribute to suffragettes(a member of militant women who fought for right to vote in the early 20th century).

The LED runway was striped red and white, there comes Wang with his mom and dad who took a final bow. The show was full of political statements, homage to icons and of course not forgetting the fashion trends and beauty looks(beauty looks where kept simple and chic(wet looks and dewy makeups)).

Fashion trends like head band accessories, androgynous suiting, plaids, inner wear for outwear, leather, asymmetric skirts, short shorts, socks worn with shoes, fringes among others with diverse range of models from Imade Ogbewi, Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner to Heejung Park, it’s a show we can’t forget so quickly.
