The cold dry winter season is always the best time to embrace face oil. You probably are already familiar with the idea of using face oil in your skincare routine which means you already know the benefit of using face oil. But if you don’t know what I am talking about, well, Covet is here to help you and hopefully convert you into the face oil gang.
Face oil is an essential oil that is formulated to moisturize and lock in hydration into the skin. Face oil is full of antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals and environmental aggressors. (Free radicals are cells in the body that cause aging and diseases while environmental aggressors are usually associated with air pollution, sun rays, nutrition, cosmetics e.t.c.).
To find your holy-grail face oil, it’s best to pay attention to the ingredients, character(what it does), and skin type suitability. The ingredients are usually what had been used to formulate the oil which will determine the character of the oil and its suitability for your skin type. Nowadays, most face oils made by brands are suitable for all skin types. Some face oils are formulated with rosehip seed, camellia seed, coconut, squalane e.t.c. and these ingredients have super benefits on the skin like their ability to prevent aging, exfoliate, moisturize, strengthen skin barrier e.t.c. and are packed full of antioxidants.
Face oil is an important final step in any skincare routine because of its ability to hold and lock in/seal moisture into the skin. After applying your serums and moisturizers, adding face oil will help your serums and moisturizers work harder for longer. Face oil does not attract moisture into the deep layers of your skin (you need a hyaluronic acid serum to do that) but will stop your serums and moisturizers from evaporating too quickly and will also serve as a barrier between your skin and the outside environmental factors.
Face oil encourages and regulates sebum production on the skin, the natural oil that coats, moisturizes, and protects the skin. Some face oil that contains squalane, camelia e.t.c. can mimic the sebum oil so when applied to the skin, the skin recognizes it and then absorb and work well with it.
Face oils are good for all skin types whether dry, oily, or sensitive. If you have oily skin, it’s best advised to go for the most non-comedogenic oil extracts and if you have acne-prone skin, you’re best bet with the ones that kill bacterias and clear spots.
