What is it about the summer season that always requires so much attention to body care and glow-up? Well to start with, the summer season is the season where everything about your self-care gets exposed. If you don’t shower in a day, a day out in the sun will expose that terrible body odour, if you’ve not been taking care of your skin – the sun is shining brightly to expose those clogged pores, and dark patches e.t.c.
This is why in today’s article, Covet’s Beauty Edit has looked into various ways to look after our skin and I’m not only referring to the face but the whole body. We’ve put together 10 body care products we believe you need to take of your body in your daily body care routine. Do note, that this is only a start guide for everyday use, and it does replace your regular visit to your esthetician and dermatologist(for those with sensitive skin that needs monitoring).
Looking after your body starts with a shower and bath routine, it’s good to have a quick shower every day in the summer season and have a bath once or twice a week, and that requires a good shower gel or body wash and bath soak. A good scented body wash/ shower gel with ingredients that love the skin. Ingredients like Hylauronic acid for moisture, shea butter for skin elasticity, Argan oil for antioxidants that protects the skin from free radicals, Vitamin C to brighten the skin e.t.c. and it’s always good when they have a good scent that lasts all day. (If you have sensitive reactive skin, you’re best with un-fragranced gentle non-comedogenic body washes/shower gels).
Practicing exfoliation in your body care routine is also a good habit to cultivate, there are many gentle exfoliators on the market right now, which do not require physical scrubbing but chemically dissolve dead skin cells and allow new skin cells to be formed., aiding an overall younger-looking skin.
The next step will be finding a good body serum with active ingredients that give your moisturiser a boost and help you achieve your skincare goals. Then a good well-scented(un-scented for sensitive skin) moisturiser that will nourish, protect, brighten and keep the skin fresh and glowy all day long. At this point, your sunscreen will be required to protect your skin from the dangerous UVA/UVB rays (don’t forget to reapply every two hours for optimum protection and the two-thumb rule).
Using lightweight essential oils as the final step in your body care routine is not so bad every now and then, essential oil will seal the moisture you’ve just gained from your moisturisers and body serums preventing dryness and aiding a glow especially if they come with shimmery pigment. You can also add body illuminators and body bronzers as part of your body care routine, especially for special occasions and events.
Finally, if you ask me, I will say wearing a scented body mist in the summer season will give you that freshness you need throughout the day and can be used to refresh as the day goes by.
