Unsalted Butter Is Better For Baking, This Is Why

If you love to bake and your final result is not what you expect maybe it’s either too salty or between salt sweet when the result should be sweet, perhaps you’re using salted butter instead of unsalted butter. Butter is great for baking, they make moist crumbs in cakes, buttery richness to cookies, and yummy chewable crust to pies.

Unsalted butter is known to be the best for baking because they give you more control on the amount of salt to be used in a recipe or in another word ‘allows you to have more control over the flavour of what you’re making’, meaning instead of using salted butter as an additional flavour to any recipe, you’re better off measuring the salt and add as needed, this allows a perfect finish. Using salted butter in any baking can ruin a recipe because the amount of salt in salted butter varied in various brands.

Additonally, unsalted butter can be fresher than salted, boosting your confidence when used, salt is known as a preservative which when think of can extrend the shelf life of salted butter while unsalted butter does not have that much long shelf life (nevertheless, always check the expiry dates before buying).

Although, some recipes require salted butter to bake, but you don’t have to be stock with it, you can measure your own salt and use a fresh unsalted butter instead. We’re not casting out salted butter from our fridge because it is delicious on toast, for glazing our vegetable, who can deny the delicousness of salted butter on pancakes or noodles? but for baking? uhmm…. I doubt.

Finally, using a salted butter either by mistake or because your local supermarket has ran out is not the end of the world, you can still take control of the amount of salt used in your baking if you opted for salted butter. Ensure you taste as you go, so as to reduce the amount of the true salt in your recipe, this should help balance things out.

If you have a baking session in your kitchen either for party or family home cooking or for solo summer days, then here are the best unsalted butter on the market:
