Let’s talk sleek silhouettes, timeless elegance, and a nudge to ’60s and ’90s matched into one, that’s the story Prada Spring Summer 2024 runway was telling. The brand continued with its minimalist approach to its designs and the beauty of this collection is that the sense of minimalism is not lost despite playing with an edge here and there. For example, you’d see a model wearing a simple floral sheer dress, and the edge in the dress will be the fringe design the dress carries or a simple taffeta dress with organza layering and detailing. The runway was just everything quiet luxury.
No wonder Muccia Prada said, “I got tired talking about ideas—let’s talk about clothes.” truly when you think about it, an everyday woman wearing any of the fashion pieces from Prada’s SS’24 runway will only want to talk about clothes, not so much of craftmanship. Although craftmanship is not ignored that’s just a kudos to oneself. Clothes are what the audience would talk about, because a girl next door only sees the clothes as a whole, from the accessory used in elevating the clothes to how the overall look is put together. You’d hear something like ‘Did you see the oversized denim paired with the fringe skirt?’ or ‘The pointy-toe court shoes look better with the high-waisted shorts’ clothes, that’s what we talk about and see, and most importantly how we can lay our hands on them.
Raf Simons agrees all runway shows are all about clothes, he went on to explain, “Craft isn’t something that gets talked about a lot at Prada, at least not as much as at other houses. We wanted to show what we could do.” It wasn’t a matter of how many hours it took to embroider this and how many petites mains were involved in making that. “That’s irrelevant”
The spotted trends on the runway range from the fringe, scarf dressing, sheer layering, short suits, pointy toe kitten heel slingbacks, broad shoulder shackets, denim (not in a literal form), high-waisted shorts, tapered trousers, ankle boots, evening bags dated to 1913. e.t.c.
