Unilever, a British-Dutch transnational consumer goods has just acquired Tatcha in a deal worth $500 million according to WWD, although we don’t know the exact terms of the deal. Unilever has many brands under their umbrella, these include Murad, Dermalogica, REN Clean Skincare, Hour glass and so on. Tatcha now joins the family of Unilever whose acquisitions in the beauty industry has resulted to the expansion of the company, unilever has also invested in cosmetics companies like True Botanicals, Beauty Bakerie through its venture and private equity arm. Tatcha’s acquisition will be one of the largest acquisitions Unilever has seen in the last year since its acquisition of Dollar Shave Club for $ billion in 2016.
Tatcha, is a skincare brand that was founded by Vicky Tsai over 10 years ago and is said to bring in $100 million in net sales for 2019. The high-end luxury skincare brand who uses japanese ingredients, retails creams, cleansers, exfoliators and mists with retailers like sephora. The brand has been run successfully with impressive sales and growth in the last past years.
The Executive Vice president of Unilever Vasiliki Petrou said in an interview with WWD; “One of my missions in life is to support female entrepreneurs, and I truly believe in female power and I truly believe the future is female, so even one more reason why I wanted to partner with Vicky and Tatcha, It’s not easy for female entrepreneurs, so I want to do my part to make the world a better place for women to work, excel and succeed.”
