As we all know Chanel’s Haute Couture designs are everything simple, in as much as the designs seem very simple, a lot of hand works really goes into these fashion pieces. Most are usually hand-knitted, hand-cut, paying attention to every detail in each look, e.t.c. Then I watched the runway show, I muttered a simple word within, ‘Are we still wearing tweed this new season? ‘cos every Chanel’s runway show never stops displaying tweeds in various forms’ Yeap! there were tweeds, Smssh! what’s new then? Then I continued watching.
To be honest, there were a lot of stand-out pieces on the runway, there was this pink crochet dress that will definitely make the best dressed on any red carpet and I can guarantee you it was hand-knitted, there were also the delicate voluminous dresses that look so sophisticated, and so on.
The tweed fabric on the other hand seems very different this season, they have a few metallics and gold-tone jewelry incorporated into some, which was what actually made them all interesting. While tweed was made interesting this season, what I believe should have been the new fabric to celebrate is the crochet, I love the pink-designed crochet dress, and I believe should have come in more designs. In a nutshell, Crochet should have been the trend or added trend of this season but seem to be very scarce on the runway.
The show was opened by Pharell Williams who used his musical art to entertain us and look forward to what Chanel will be presenting this season, and most especially how celebrities will be styling these fashion pieces come the next award season.
Virginie Viard – Chanel’s creative director took the show to an equestrian center in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris France.
Overall, the runway looks are all timeless contemporary designs that I believe will remain forever treasured come many seasons to come. The silhouettes were drawn from the 30s, the silhouettes that manifested in form of skirts, trousers, dresses e.t.c. “I also like to break the graphic approach with a natural look. The clothes remain light, feminine, and designed to be worn. I can’t see myself doing it any other way,” Virginie Viard said.
