Maison Valentino’s ‘DayDream’ Couture

The Maison Valentino couture presentation was nothing but day dream – ‘Day Dream’ the theme of the show, which turned fantasy into a sartorial reality.

The Maison Valentiono brand has always been known as fashion’s best dreamer, their couture collections are nothing but a sculptural purity and unparalleled colour sensibility. Their latest couture collection presentation took place at the Aman Summer Palace in Beijing on a Thursday evening, according to WWD, “Pierpaolo Piccioli(Creative Director of the brand) hoped people would think of it as a daydream, the title of this particular collection, in which two ancient capitals – Renaissance-era Rome and imperialistic Beijing – engage in a dialogue,”  with the show notes indicating that the ultra-romantic range is designed to erase “boundaries between reality and desire.”

“Under the arcades of the Summer Palace a fantastic encounter of two different cultures happen like a dream unfolding before the viewers’ open eyes,” the show notes state. “Symbols, colours, decorations merge one into the other as the Italian spirit of the Renaissance meets the opulence of the Chinese splendor.”

The show really outdid it self, it was an over the top fashion treat for fashion lovers where the models were adorned with sparkling cage headdresses paired with scarlett glitter lips or a sharp silver glittery winged eye. The collection features a beautiful intarsia opera coat composed of swirling sections of green sequins, a rich looking velvet ballgown covered in hundreds of shaded pink bows, a feathered-hooded ground-grazing cape, an over-the-top and dramatic head-to-toe concoction of shimmery fluidity, voluminous dress made of ruffles of cherry-red point d’esprit and finally the Piccioli’s closed the show with his master craftsmanship encapsulated in one, is an elaborate gown with superb 3-D effect floral detailing.
