The messy bun hair have been around for a while but have become a thing lately – there is no where you look and not see a woman wear the hair style trend, the runway, street style etc. The messy bun hair trend is endlessly versatile milan fashion week spring summer 2025 and newyork fashion week spring summer 2024 have both proved this to be true. You’d see a model walk down the runway wearing the look and not look so cheap yet a busy mum running an errand can also wear this hair style and not look overdressed – can be worn off duty and transition from day to night.

Nowadays, tight hair buns are just outdated – a look that replicates both groomed and non-challant attitude is the way to go, and it doesn’t’t matter what your style taste is. It’s a hair style if well cultivated can speak a modern day look that can never go wrong whether you’re a minimalist or maximalist.
Creating texture is the first step to achieving this look: and it’s the loose and soft aspect of the look that gives the texture. After washing your hair then go ahead and rough dry it – you can do this by not been too precise with your drying but use hands to rough it up while drying then work your texturising products through the root to the length of your hair.
To deepen the texture use a waving or curling tong to create a soft wave around the ends of the hair. Start by separating your hair into four sections and tong each section ensuring they fall away from the face towards the back- remember we are creating a wave not a curl. Do the same to all the sections of the hair. Avoid creating anything too perfect.
The next step is to grab an oversized comb and loosely comb your hair into a pony positioning the base to back of the head not too far away from the crown of the head. The placement is not limited to this position, it can be towards the front like a top knot, the crown of the head or the back of the head towards nape of the neck. Using the oversized comb brush the pony into volume then twist the pony into a bun like shape. Once the bun is formed, secure it with a hair pin or grips focusing on pinning it down from the root – ensuring the pins are well disguised to allow you to show off the buns.
Finally, the final touches; at this stage pull loose some hair strands from the buns to mess it up a little bit, allow two to three to fall loose to frame the face. then spray a medium hold spray all over – the non sticky formulas are the best on the market. For the final flourish spritz some scented hair mist for a “drip of gold from head to the tee! – Ykes!”
