Marc Jacob was feeling nostalgic when preparing his spring’20 collection, the runway was full of joyous tribute to the past, celebration of the present and the future.
The show took place at a historic location -Pier 54 in Newyork with the twin tower glistening a few hundred yards away. Marc Jacobs star studded fashion show reflected on his past review by Paper Magazine for his spring 2002, remembrance of the 9/11 and recently departed friends like Karl lagerfeld and Lee Radziwill and so on.
All these were what spring 2020 collection is all about “is a celebration of life, joy, equality, individuality, optimism, happiness, indulgence, dreams and a future unwritten.” The runway was flooded with models wearing bright and riotous style which reminds us of the 70’s style. There were bold colours, pastel floral prints, cowboy’s hats, exaggerated hats(trend of the season), boots, platform shoes. satin suits and so on. The models were smiling, strutting and dancing, posing for any cell phone camera held aloft as they passed.
There were so many of Jacobs’s signatures and favorite references from over the years: ’60s flower children, ’70s disco-glam queens, explosions of flowers and feathers, downtown-cool graphic tees and satin pants, uptown-chic tweed jackets (referencing Karl) menswear suiting paired with top hats and bowlers, flowing gowns piled with ruffles and lace. The beauty look was on point and the audience were able to get a second look at the models as walked the space again in opposing pairs.
The Marc Jacobs brand grown form strength to strength and this spring 2020 collection gave a lot of options to Fashion editors who are looking for looks they can put together for the spring 2020 editorials. The show gave alot of us inspiration like: the violet and marigold dress made up of chiffon flowers or the pastel floral satin suit? The giant, butterfly-shaped sunglasses or the white ruffled top hat? Customers who want something easy to wear can go for the slouchy corduroy, the striped-knit dresses, the patchwork jeans and the lurex turtlenecks.
Jacobs came out and took a bow to his audience running, twirling and blowing kisses around the room. He said,”As with closely guarded tradition, tonight is our reminder of the joy in dressing up, our unadulterated love of fashion and embracing grand gestures of unbridled expressions, reactions, ideas and possibilities,” the show ended and it’s a beautiful way to end New York Fashion Week 2019.
