A fashion staple from the aughts has made a wild comeback to our summer wardrobe this season, despite the fact that the aughts/noughties (2000 – 2009) are known to be an era of bad fashion but this new era will help to tidy it up. What do I mean? come with me.
The waistcoat in question was once spotted on Brandy, one of the iconic singers of the 90s (although not from the aughts but part of fashion back then that was extended into the noughties), pairing the metallic version of a waistcoat with matching metallic bottom, but now worn in a matte black version paired with a well-tailored wide-leg trousers thanks to Kylie Jenner. Although not a waistcoat but a proof that the bad fashion era is now worn better in now the new era, was when Christian Aguilera was spotted wearing an alter neck top paired with a super micro mini skirt, now tidied up by Hailey Beiber who wore her’s as part of a high waisted pencil skirt cords.
The only celebrity who wore the waistcoat stylishly in the aughts (that everyone would love to be part of ) is Kate Moss, she wore it with skinny jeans and a long-sleeve shirt, accessorised with black boots, and, sometimes will swap the skinny jeans for denim shorts and place a long skinny scarf around the neck. Chic!. Kate Moss’s style back then would sell out on Topshop’s style aisle, although the aught era is no more its fashion is still very much alive
The fashion staple is well-loved by celebrities, style influencers, fashion editors, etc. the Spring Summer 2023 runways won’t stop wearing it, Celine went full-on Kate Moss’s vibe, while Coperni paired it with the trending baggy cargo trousers, and many street styles would wear it as a matching set (coords) of trouser suiting without the blazer, making it an all occasion style staple and an alternative to a wedding guest dress or short suit(you will have fun with it as a match set in pastels and tan brown shades). You can also go for a more laid-back style with your favorite baggy denim jeans, bold-colored pumps, strappy sandals, or better still leather slides and a top handle bag or an oversized clutch.
That being said, you’re not limited to wearing your favorite waistcoat with trousers or shorts this summer, you can also wear it with maxi denim skirts, and mini skirts. Just ensure there is a balance when styling it with these fashion staples, with a maxi denim skirt it can be worn alone while wearing it with a mini skirt can be placed on top of a lightweight cotton top. You can also place it on your favorite summer maxi dress for a more trend-chic vibe or shall we call it ‘rock and roll’ vibe.
