The Kenzo Spring 2023 RTW collection is nothing but sailor wear on graduation day. Nigo, the brand’s artistic director dug into the brand’s archive to create a collection that’s so different, sporty, and wearable even in an office setting.
This sophomore/sailor wear graduation day collection is inspired by Kenzo Takada who was a Japanese fashion designer that founded Kenzo. There were bucket hats with Kenzo’s logo in the front matched with well-tailored wide-leg trousers giving a sailor’s look vibe, there was a head-to-toe matching stripped aline mini skirt, top, jacket, and hat spotted on a male model also can be concluded to be a gender-neutral look meaning can be worn by a female too.
The collection also featured pinafore skirts, voluminous dresses, the suit looks designed in a form of sailor wear (so different and very gorgeous), there were waistcoats with patchwork badges, denim midi skirts, varsity jackets, knitwear, print coords, shirt dresses, printed blazers, stripy denim jackets, denim trousers with pockets in the front rather in the back e.t.c. The accessories range from ball leather bags, patent flat sandals, berets, loafers e.t.c.
The general beauty looks were a makeup no makeup look, with a pixie haircut.
According to sources the pieces of denim from Kenzo’s spring 2023 runway, were sourced by Nigo from Japan. Toby Nigo’s translator said: “He’s got access to the fabrics he wants. Everything’s still being made here, but he feels that they understand his vibe, and then they’re also adding to it with their own sensibility.”
The show was also a star-studded one where Jessica Biel, Jaden Smith, Ghali, and Justin Timberlake were all at the show, including the CEO of LVMH fashion group – Sidney Toledano – who was ready to wear one of the stripy blazers to his next board meeting.
Overall the collection is very appealing to all ages and cultures, and rumor has it that the collection is already selling out.
