5 Hacks That Will Change The Way You Wear Your Concealer

The beauty of wearing concealer as part of your makeup routine is a power that transforms an ordinary look to super-ordinary. It’s a power of transformation that if you get it right, your makeup look will always be fresh and you will master the skill that will stick with you forever.

The benefit of getting it right include bright eye, glowing skin, and well sculpted face, on the other hand when wrongly applied is where you see accentuated lines, uneven skin tone, ‘cakeyness’ etc.

The use of concealer is a way to camouflage dark circles, spots and even skin tone to the best of textures and tones: here are the 5 hacks to know to achieve flawless concealer work all the time:

1. Always Set Your Concealer

After the application of your concealer in the three major ways its known for – to conceal imperfections, to brighten the t-zone and to sculpt the face, you’re most advised to always set it using your setting powder. The need to use so much setting powder is not necessary but the use of light fine loose setting powder to hang as air on the concealer will promise a lasting look. The use of pressed powders is a No, No as they are too heavy and can end up accentuating the fines lines under the eye.

    2. Always Cover Your Blemish With Anti-Inflammatory Gel

To cover a blemish start off with an anti-inflammatory gel, then apply an eyeshadow primer before applying concealer. This allows the gel to protect the open spot and the primer to seal it. It’s the best way to treat a breakout so that it doesn’t affect the rest of the makeup.

    3. Always Cover Your Dark Circles

To get the best out of your concealer start your makeup routine concealing the dark circles- you want to neutralise the blue/gray darkness under the eyes and to achieve this is with the use of colour corrector. For fair/pale skin, you are advised to use peach colour corrector, and for dark skin a terracotta colour corrector will neutralise the gray dark shade under the eyes. The point to hold unto is that we are not colour matching but neutralising. To apply use your ring finger to press in the colour corrector ensuring it covers the under eye into the inner and outer corner of the eyes“ Then go in with your concealer, bear in mind you might need to invest in two to three different shades of concealers as your face can carry different shade due to sun burn, skin natural imperfection and of course to brighten/sculpt.

    4. Learn To Stop Your Concealer From Caking

To stop your concealer from caking, apply your moisturiser or an eye cream as the base before going in with the concealer. This will serve as cream canvass for the concealer to sit on, it will hydrate and plump the skin and not only that, as the skin absorbs the cream the concealer finishes as a beautiful second to skin.

    5. Choose The Right Texture Of Concealer For Different Use

When buying your concealer you’re advised to go for creamy formula for under eye coverage as the skin under the eye is very thin and transparent. The creamier the concealer the more the delicate skin will gain starting from moisture to youthful glow. Finally for the oily t-zone area, a more powdery matte concealer is recommended – as this will help brighten the t-zone as well as delay oil production. It’s good to know to go a shade darker to conceal and a shade to two shades lighter to brighten.
